Over break, I read a book called Speak. The book is a little disturbing, but is a little eye opening. Melinda was at a party entering her freshman year, where something happened that caused her to call the cops on the party. After that, most people in the school hate her, and she's known for calling the cops on that party. The sad part is that people don't know what really happened at the party. (You'll have to read the book to find out.)
To me, this story made me think: You can't really judge people for what they did, maybe they had a reason. Some people are just a little too quiet to speak up and say the truth. It shows how people get labeled for something that are not in their control. We can't always judge a book by it's cover, because you never really know what's actually been going on in their lives.

Mardi Gras Break
During my Mardi Gras Break, I didn't really get to do anything. I was relieved to be able to get away from school, but at the same time bored because most of my friends were out of town. The only exciting thing I really did was get a double piercing, and might now have to take it out because of softball.
A good way to kick of the break was the soccer game that was on Friday night. Knights did great. Won 3-0, and more importantly, we beat U-High. Even though they got runner-up in state, I think the soccer team is pretty amazing. They had a wonderful season, and did their very best.

Nervous Conditions Chapter 3
So far, I think the book Nervous Conditions is a little confusing. I enjoy the book, but it's hard to tell what's going on when she skips back and forth between time periods. But for most of the book, she has been talking about how much she dislikes her brother, and parents.
I think later on in the book, she might try to get away from her family, and that's probably why the author used three chapters to tell it; to foreshadow some of the events to explain them better. Right now, the whole plot is still a little confusing. I'm not too entirely sure what the book is about, but I know I'll soon find out.

Basketball Game
So as everyone knows, the basketball game against U-High was on Friday night. I thought that all the games were great. But my favorite had to be the girls Varsity game. It was one of the most amazing endings to a game I've ever seen in my life.
We were down by one point - it was 41-42, and most people had lost hope, with only 3 seconds left on the clock. We were on offense, and one of the girls had thrown the ball to the other side of the court, and another had scored. It was one of the most amazing wins I've ever seen. I think this is something I will always remember.

Nervous Conditions
First going into this reading unit, I thought I would dread reading this book. Usually I don't enjoy reading books for school. I like it better when we have the option of free choice read, that way it can be something we like. Usually, teachers like to pick the boring books, and it's not as enjoyable when you have to take notes on it.
Once I started reading the book however, I found myself surprised on how much I actually enjoyed it. I can't really relate well to this book though. I can't imagine the poverty people in Africa had to go through during that time. I can definitely relate to the family problems, as can most people who have trouble getting along with a sibling, or another family member.

Research Paper - Part 2
This time, working on my research paper, I was having a lot of faith in my draft. I think I did a good job on it. I stayed up, and did my very best working on this paper. In preparation for it, I got 19 notecards done, just so I knew I had a good amount of research.
For the paper, during the beginning, I was so worried that I wouldn't have enough research to even make 2 pages. To my surprise, Once I was done with the first page of research, I already knew I would have enough. Turns out my paper is 4 1/2 pages long. Going through this process helped me have more faith in my abilities to write.
